What is the Path to COP?

Since 2019, GEFI has engaged across COP25, COP26, COP27, COP28, and COP29 and has become the go to partner for finance industry stakeholders seeking to effectively navigate and leverage the UNFCCC COP process to drive climate finance.

GEFI is an UNFCCC Accredited Observer Organisation with extensive experience in building practically-focused COP programmes. Along with traditional finance, our programmes incorporates broader perspectives and themes such as the just transition, blended finance, nature and biodiversity, Islamic finance and the SDGs.

Over the last 3 years, through our Path to COP campaigns, we have built an ecosystem of over 100 financial institutions, regulators and service providers and engaged with over 3000 finance professionals.

GEFI has been appointed by host governments and regulators to deliver their post COP programmes to help embed climate finance within the domestic financial markets.

Path to COP: Driving Climate Action Through Finance

With finance firmly embedded on the COP agenda we have built upon our previous successes to ensure the finance sector takes decisive action ahead of COP. Our Path to COP campaigns seek to encourage and support financial institutions to a just transition from commitment to implementation, measurement and reporting.

Our Path to COP initiatives create a vibrant ecosystem of stakeholders, fostering collaboration through stakeholder mapping, best practices, and brand profiling. They address key themes such as climate, nature, and Islamic finance, using workstreams like capacity building, strategic initiatives, and research. Through pre-COP roundtables, official and fringe sessions, and post-COP reflections, the initiative ensures the finance sector is actively engaged. Advocacy, advisory roles, media partnerships, and tailored advertising amplify the impact of these efforts.
