The Global Ethical Finance Initiative conducted research to understand how much Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPSs) in Scotland have invested in companies that drive fossil fuel extraction and deforestation.

Scotland’s Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPSs) are pension funds for Scottish local government workers, including social workers, administrative officers and others. They are administered by local councils and represent a key financial stakeholder and asset owner in the country, covering 1 in 7 adults in Scotland.

This report assesses the scale of Scottish LGPS assets which are currently invested in companies involved in fossil fuels or deforestation, using publicly available data to assess the proportion of investment assets which are involved in these key focus areas.
